ARARAT is the official partner of the opening ceremony of the “Hovhannes Aivazovsky. Creation” exhibition

National Gallery of Armenia celebrates the 200th anniversary of the famous marine painter Hovhannes Aivazovsky in a special way: for the first time some of the exceptional masterpieces of the painter will be displayed in Armenia.

The exhibition first opened its doors to ARARAT guests in a special Avant-premiere event on September 13th. During the evening the guests had the opportunity to enjoy the paintings along with ARARAT brandies, as well as cocktails based on them.

The exhibition presented the career path of the well-known Armenian artist with the paintings and graphic collections of the National Gallery of Armenia and the documents held in different archives: 52 paintings, 26 graphic, 1 decorative and 20 documentary illustrations. For the first time, one of the most famous Aivazovsky’s paintings from the collection of the Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice, “Chaos. Creation” will be displayed.

Director of the National Gallery Arman Tsaturyan welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of the exhibition in his opening speech inviting the visitors to enjoy the exclusive tour. Two masterpieces — “Chaos. The Creation of the world” and “Descent of Noah from Ararat” became the core of the exhibition, since as Arman Tsaturyan explained: “God created the world, but the second beginning of humanity became ARARAT.”

The official opening of the exhibition took place on September 14th, on the next day of the avant-premiere. RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandyan, RA Minister of Culture Armen Amiryan, RA Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan, art critic Mikhail Shvidkoy were among the guests attending the opening together with other officials, including the participants of the conference dedicated to Aivazovsky who despite their stiff schedule also visited ARARAT Museum.

The exhibition will be open from September 15th till January, providing the visitors the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful masterpieces.
